Hello fellow air cooled fans! I have a 72 bug that the starter wont engage on. It has MSD ignition and an aftermarket push button to start from a Catepillar. Lol. The ignition switch went out so the guy I got the bug from put the push button in it. It worked great. Started every time then all of the sudden NOTHING. The "dummy" lights on the dash work fine. Has a new starter and battery. All contacts seem to be good. The Ground strap on the Transaxle to frame is good. Possible that the push button just pooped out? I'm at a loss right now and want to drive my bug!! Any help or ideas is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think you’re on the right track. First make sure you are getting power to one side of the switch with a test light. When you push the switch you should get power to the other (out) side of the switch towards the starter. If this isn’t happening I’d suspect the switch. If you are getting power then the problem could be in the wire from the switch to the starter. VWs have a lot of problems with grounds so always check to make sure everything is grounded properly. You can chech the starter in place by putting power directly to it...be careful with the live power wire. Hope this helps.
